We have our Jim Trelease style forward facing bookshelves. We originally used rain gutters as Mr. Trelease suggested. It lasted about four years before buckling from what I am pretty sure was little ones trying to climb on it and mommy filling them too full with books. So last year my husband made this new one with a couple of pieces of wood and braces. It's working beautifully. The white bookcase to the right houses all of our math manipulatives within easy reach for lessons or even just playtime. Jonathan especially loves to pull out the math "toys."
The four chair table was a $30 Craigslist find. It's is the perfect desk for us all to sit around to do our written work, paintings and crafts.
The white bookcase is our new, wonderful addition for this year. All of our daily/mostly daily books, etc. are housed here. We have our book basket on top. Inside I place read alouds for the week's lessons. I have a CD/tape player (mainly for the kids to listen to books from the forward facing bookshelf that have tapes or CDs) and our microscope is also on top.
This is the wall opposite the word wall, and this picture is from last year. I have yet to tackle the closet and last year's organization is what I am shooting for ~ so I thought I'd share what my goal is with you instead of my messy closet! Hidden inside is my $15 laminator and an eight year old color printer/copier that still works like a champ! The plastic bins with drawers are so nice. I have them labeled for crayons, markers, water paints and brushes, glue/tape/scissors, dry erase, magnet set, nature finds, craft supplies, etc.
