Photobucket

Hola,  ¿Que' tal?, Soy Hope. We are all singing fun Spanish songs and learning Spanish (from Spain) online with Speekee! ~  Speekee is the adorable purple puppet below!

How We are Using Speekee TV:
Speekee offers a free 40 week curriculum plan called Fast Track for Speekee TV subscribers. Fast Track compiles four lesson plan activities per week and utilizes a spiral learning approach. Activities may include specific video segments to watch, pdf worksheets, skit ideas and flashcards to download. The activities generally take less than 15 minutes to complete and really solidify the Spanish words and phrases being learned. For example:
  • The first day of our first week, we watched the full first episode, about 13 minutes. Then, we copied the word El parque on a sheet of paper. Next, they drew a picture of a park as suggested in Fast Track.
  • On day two, we made Dino and Lupi sock puppets and practiced singing songs with our Dino and Lupi friends. While the children were working, I made sure to use the praise words we were learning in episode one: fantastico and muy bien, as suggested!
  •  Day three utilized a great hands-on game for practicing "How are you?" We drew a happy face on one side and a sad face on the back side of a sheet of paper.  When I said "muy bien" or "no muy bien" they would hold up the corresponding face. Next, I would say, "¿Que' tal?" Which means, how are you. The little ones would hold up either the happy or sad face and say "muy bien" or "no muy bien."
  • Day four of Fast Track we watched a video segment from video one and mouthed the words with our sock puppets. Later, we took turns playing parts with our sock puppets as suggested.

There are a total of 10 Speekee episodes. We are currently finishing week five of Fast Track, which has us beginning activities with video episode two, El Cafe. The 40-week plan will take you thoroughly through all 10 Speekee episodes.

I love the activities in Fast Track. I also love how beside each day's explanation of activities includes the specific link to resource that will be used, whether it is a video segment, worksheet or flashcard download. It's so handy to have everything right there.

I also love that this is an online program. While traveling in July, we enjoyed watching the Speekee videos and singing along in our hotel room. (Sometimes we use the closed caption option and sometimes I turn it off. The program recommends full immersion without the subtitles.) I could also access the episodes on my iPhone. We occasionally will plug my iPhone into our car adapter and listen for FUN while traveling in a good reception area. The songs and skits are catchy! The kids and I find ourselves humming and singing along at random. I also witnessed the children speak Spanish greetings and praise words to a team of Spanish speaking craftsmen. The men seemed to appreciate the children speaking to them in their native tongue. I have to say Speekee is a success in our home.

Ages: Speekee is recommended for children ages 2-10.

Pricing for their online program: Speekee offers the first two weeks free and the monthly fee is $7.50. A year subscription is $60.00. You can cancel your membership at any time. You may view pricing information here.

  1. Fellow Crew Mate following. :) Very creative puppets! My daughter wanted to make them, but I just haven't gotten around to that part yet. I tend to avoid crafts like spiders!

    1. Camillie,
I would love to say we came up with all the materials on our own. We actually found a sock puppet kit for three at The Center for Puppetry Arts in ATL. I've seen the kits on Amazon, too. Super cute and fun to make ~ the best part is there's NO glue!!
Thanks for taking time to comment =)
